Shed Your Winter Coat and Get Outside

After months of hibernation, it’s time to shed the winter coats and get outside!

Warmer weather brings out some of our favorite things to do. You can head out alone for a bike ride or walk, or “unplug” the kids and head out on a family adventure. AND the best part is, it’s FREE to be outside! There are plenty of activities that cost little to nothing to enjoy.

Flowers are blooming and the sun is shining . . . it’s time to enjoy SPRING! Here are some ideas to get you some natural vitamin D:

Walk, Hike or Bike – You can head out for some alone time or grab the family! You can walk or bike around your neighborhood and local parks. Or do some research on your local state parks. With a little research, you might be surprised by trails you’ll find close to you.

Play a Sport – Get active with outdoor sports! Head to a park and toss a Frisbee or kick around a soccer ball. Get a group together and play softball or basketball, or challenge your friends to a corn hole or ladder ball toss game.

Picnic or BBQ – Head out to a park or beach, lay down a blanket and enjoy your favorite beverages and snacks. Or fire up the grill for a barbeque. Food just seems to taste better outside. And while out there, try flying a kite or building a sandcastle with the kids!

Seasonal Foods – Depending on your location, you might be close to some great summer fruit and vegetable farms. Check to see what is close to you and spend the day out on a farm picking your own fruit!

Gardening – Plant something! Make your own herb, fruit or vegetable garden, or plant some colorful flowers around your home.

Zoos, Theme/Amusement Parks & Ballparks – During this time of year many places offer discount admission prices. Check for spring break deals at Zoos and Amusement parks. Also, many Major League Ballparks offer family discount packs to games. Check your local club’s website for deals!

Festivals, Farmers Markets and More – Check locally for Farmers Markets and Festivals and other outside events such as home and garden shows.

This is just a short list of spring activities. There are many other things to do – camping, water sports, leisurely drives, etc. – Spring is in bloom. Did we miss one of your favorite spring activities?
